For
the first InChorus of 2018, Kalasetu is honored to welcome the famous
French composer Thierry Pécou, on the initiative of Alliance Française
de Delhi and the Ensemble Variances for a creation inspired by Indian
Classical Music.
After a first immersion in India in January 2017 with Carjez Gerretsen, Thierry Pécou and his Ensemble Variances start a Franco-Indian musical Project. This show gathers Indian and Western musicians, confronting two traditions, two ways of approaching sound, rhythm, forms, where oral and written traditions meet.
This project will be a stimulating and creative exchange between Western and Indian classical tradition, and between a senior artist and several young and talented musicians promoted by the platform [InChorus].

Après un premier voyage en Inde et une première découverte de l’univers de la musique classique indienne en janvier 2017 avec le clarinettiste Carjez Gerretsen, Thierry Pécou et son Ensemble Variances se lancent en 2018 dans une nouvelle création intitulée Sangâta, avec la collaboration de trois virtuoses indiens.
Dans la continuité de ses œuvres de musique contemporaine s’inspirant de musiques de traditions orales, ce projet franco-indien du compositeur mêlera deux grandes traditions musicales savantes, chacune avec son approche de la mélodie, des sonorités, du rythme et des formes. Tandis que l’une donne une place centrale à l’écrit et à l’acte créateur du compositeur, l’autre met au cœur la capacité à émouvoir et à surprendre l’auditeur dans l’instant par l’interprétation toujours renouvelée du mode musical (raga).
Pour réaliser ce pont entre deux univers esthétiques et créer une rencontre musicale d’où le public ressortira différent, Thierry Pécou a rassemblé autour de lui des musiciens solistes de talent.

[InChorus] is a cycle of musical meetings organized by the Alliance Française de Delhi and the cultural association Kalasetu for the promotion of South Asian traditional Performing Arts and exchanges between Indian and French artists. [InChorus] offers a platform for creation dedicated to young promising musicians, of all genres, settled in India and in France through residencies, concerts and workshops. They encourage talented Indian musicians to take part in the development of a musical project or to strengthen an already existing collaboration with a French (or European) artist.
